Control V: Slow Reading The Cancer Journals
(A HATCH Workshop)

Combining poetry and disabled embodied practice, we will facilitate a workshop on cut-up poetry. We will slow down with Lorde, thinking around amputation and prosthesis while rethinking the jagged edges, possibilities, and limitations of cut-up poetry in conversation with the text. We will make cut-up poems from medical journals on breast and liver cancer published in the latter half of the 1970s. We will use this process as a method for reading with Lorde’s text. Please come having read chapters I and II if you can.

[Background Image Description: A black and white picture shows a surface where various layers of posters have been ripped and piled/placed over one another. The words on the posters are not discernible except on the right side of the frame where “l’histoire” can be read vertically. At the bottom of the picture, a fish lies horizontally.]

Please RSVP IF POSSIBLE and share widely.
