2018 Keynote Speaker

Dear WAWH members:

We are delighted to announce that the keynote speaker for the 2018 WAWH Conference in Davis will be Anita Casavantes Bradford.

Casavantes Bradford is Associate Professor of Chicano/Latino Studies and History at University of California, Irvine where her research has focused on Transnational and Comparative Latina/o History, immigration, race and ethnicity, and childhood. She currently serves as co-director of the UC Cuba Multicampus Academic Initiative and is the founder of the University of California’s First Generation Faculty Initiative, which promotes academic success and well-being for first-generation students and faculty in the UC system.

Casavantes Bradford is also the founding former chair of UC Irvine’s Committee on Equity and Inclusion for Undocumented Students (CEIUS). In 2015, Casavantes Bradford won UCI’s Outstanding Social Justice Activist Award; she received UCI’s Tom Angell Award for Outstanding Mentorship in 2017. Her talk will consider the intersections between historical scholarship, educational advocacy, and political activism.

Deadline Approaching

The deadline for submitting proposals for WAWH’s annual conference being held at UC Davis April 26-28, 2018 is fast approaching. All applications are due Sunday, October 15, 2017
