ASTR early bird registration deadline: October 15th
Dear ASTR Members,
We are excited to have you attend the 2017 ASTR conference this November 16-19 in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference theme—“Extra/Ordinary Bodies: Interrogating the Performance and Aesthetics of ‘Difference’”—yielded a tremendous and diverse range of scholarship, including: 40 working sessions, 20 plenary speakers, 7 curated panels, and a number of graduate student events. The opening ceremony will feature a performance by Full Radius Dance. This Atlanta-based dance company is “recognized as one of the top physically integrated modern dance companies in the nation” and is “comprised of professional dancers with and without physical disabilities.” After the opening reception, the fun will continue with MIGHTY REAL (dancing, DJ, show, and cash bar).
As part of the dialogue on “Extra/Ordinary Bodies,” we have curated a keynote roundtable for Friday morning that will feature Rosemarie Garland Thomson, Alberto Sandoval-Sánchez, Faedra Chatard Carpenter, and Mexican performance artist Katia Tirado. Friday night will also feature a performance art piece by Katia Tirado entitled Instrucciones bajo la mesa (Instructions Under the Table). Tirado is an internationally recognized artist whose work has been featured at numerous venues in the United States, Mexico, Spain, Austria, Russia, China, Germany, and Poland.
We hope that this schedule inspires you to come and stay for the duration of the conference. We will post more details about the events as they are finalized. Please visit ASTR’s website for full details on the conference schedule and hotel reservations. Click here to register.
We look forward to seeing you this November in Atlanta!
