Join me on the weekend of Dec 10/11 for an unveiling of my sci-fi eco-feminist retelling of The Ramayana— a Sitayana, if you will. A tale told and retold a thousand times, the Ramayana tradition is as much about storytelling as about the story itself. Originally imagined as cinema, the project now exists as performance of a film. Unfolding in two acts, Forest Tales is therefore not only the story of Sita as hacker/shaman/plant/cyborg, but also the story of cinema itself.
My collaborators on this project include Yoshi Asai as Set Designer; Dana Kawano as Costume Designer; Margaret Laurena Kemp as Sita; Julie Masumoto-Fong as Costume Associate; Ruby Mountain as Songstress/Sound Designer; Alka Raghuram as Talk Show Host; and Fei Rost as Illustrator. Other co-conspirators include Dhaya Lakshminarayanan, Micropixie, Manula Menon, Lalitha Gopalan, and Tejal Shah. Special thanks to Rock the Bike and 3rd i Films.
