Simon Fraser University’s School for the Contemporary Arts is partnering with Vancouver’s frank theatre company to organize a major conference on Queer Theatre and Performance in Canada, which will take place next week, July 20-24, at SFU Woodward’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 West Hastings Street, in Vancouver. The event brings scholars of queer Canadian theatre and performance together with artists, producers, curators and administrators to talk about current trends and future directions in queer performance practices, as well as the larger historical narrative of Canadian queer theatrical production and reception. Eight roundtable discussions have been curated, and each evening concludes with a staged reading of new work, part of the frank’s Clean Sheets series There is also an opening lecture-performance on the history of queer performance in Vancouver on the Wednesday evening, followed by a reception.
All events except the by-invitation Wednesday morning and afternoon sessions and the lunchtime pitch-session on Thursday are free and open to the public, though we are asking interested attendees to register by contacting info. More information, including drafts of roundtable presentations, can be found at our conference website: http://q2qconference.com.
If you happen to be in Vancouver next week, please consider joining us. Some exceptional talent has been gathered together for this event.
