Please join the Dance Studies Working Group for two upcoming discussions.

Monday, February 8
Conversation with Dr. Clare Croft
5-7pm in Dwinelle Annex 126, UC Berkeley
facilitated by Randi Evans and kate mattingly
Topics will include Croft’s recent book, Dancers as Diplomats, as well as research methodologies in dance studies and her next project. If you are interested in reading selections from her book and you missed the earlier email, let us know and we will pass along the pdfs for select chapters.

Rachel Carrico and Latanya D. Tigner: "Why Yo’ Feet Hurt? Doing Dance Research at the New Orleans Second Line" 5-7pm in the Bancroft Studio, UC Berkeley
Rachel and Latanya share research on the aesthetic, political, and social dimensions of second lining, an African diaspora dance form rooted in New Orleans’s black parading traditions. There are three suggested readings for this discussion. Two are attached – an essay by Kalamu ya Salaam and one by Helen A. Regis. The third is by Latanya, and can be found at this link:
