First Meeting of the Dance Studies Working Group – Sept 18

By

DSWG Working Group on Dance

Hi everyone!

We look forward to seeing you at our events this semester. You can find a schedule of speakers and discussions here.

The working group was recently awarded three years of funding from the Townsend center so we plan on expanding and deepening conversations about dance, research, and performance by focusing on events that both within and outside of UC Berkeley campus.

Our first meeting delves into these areas with a discussion of Amara Tabor-Smith’s EarthBodyHOME, a multi-media dance theater piece to be performed the following weekend at ODC. The work is inspired by the life, work and legacy of Cuban artist Ana Mendieta (1948-1985). Please join us September 18 in Dwinelle Annex 126 for a conversation with Amara entitled "Reify, Re/earth, Re/member: Choreographic process as historical research in a culture of selective memory (or in a culture of forgetting)."

Readings on the work and life of Ana Mendieta are provided below. Feel free to bring questions for Amara as there will be open dialogue about her research on the 18th.
If you have any questions about DSWG, please reply to this message.
